About basic.work

The founders Rainer Martin and Christina Baumgartner have set themselves the task of illuminating the essentials. “Basic” brings conscious simplicity to the center of the action. Your work “work” is reduced to allowing the generally great, the process. The result is beautiful lights that are handmade in Austria from natural materials.

What is sustainable about your products?

We work with a high percentage of clay, loam, and ceramics from our surroundings. Right down to the technical details such as the threads in the light fixtures and canopies. There is no waste – everything that is produced can be recycled.

What are the 3 most suitable adjectives to describe this and why?

timeless – the design is elegant and elegant. The idea is to create something lasting, timeless – something that can last for generations.

unique – every single lamp is a piece in itself. Communication with the material is of great importance for the end product, so we bring the properties of the material to effect.

sounding – even the beautiful sound that the light emits – a frequency / resonance. This frequency vibrates and moves in the room. For us, this is also a quality check to see whether the luminaire has succeeded in everything.

What is the secret to your success?

Success is a matter of resonance. We can experience how our light bodies change the atmosphere, the space. Mood promotes togetherness and conversation. In this respect, our recipe for success is a conscious change of mood.

People place more value on less, but consciously high quality – high quality in the choice of materials, sustainability and atmosphere. We produce with this awareness – and this resonance resonates.

The conversion of mass products and standardization to high-quality handcraft and individuality.

What do you like about Interior Park?

The network acts like a home for us and our lights.

At home: We are understood and valued in what we do and how we think. Enthusiasm for a new idea, a new quality can be felt.

What is good design?

Good design for me is in the words of Antonie de Saint Exupery – writer:

“Perfection is not achieved when there is nothing more to add, but when nothing can be left out.”

Plain and simple according to the purpose. Consciousness has changed. It’s about reducing consumption and paying attention to quality. Good design is to support the consumer in this change with our products.

What are the greatest challenges for design in the future?

Staying up to date – connecting the latest – simplicity through reduction.
And implemented in such a way that it does not violate one’s own moral principles.
