Innovative building systems for external internal application in residential buildings were developed for new construction as well as refurbishment. [H]house solutions cover aspects of chemical and physical \u2018activity\u2019 of the developed building materials, their embodied energy, suitability for different applications and environments, durability, cost-efficiency and long-term improvement of energy efficiency of buildings. Special emphasis was placed on the improvement of the indoor environmental quality of spaces through the use of natural building materials that help to control relative humidity levels but also adsorb airborne pollutants.<\/p>\n<p>The main objective of the project is the development of innovative, sustainable fa\u00e7ade elements and partition walls, based on earthen, wooden or cellulose materials as well as optimised, surface modified, cementitious materials, in order to improve the indoor environment with regards to health and occupant comfort.<\/p>\n<p>The elements will be developed for both existing as well as newly constructed residential buildings that strive forward to minimise the energy demand in dwellings. The international consortium consists of 3 research institutes, including the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing BAM, 5 SME\u2019s and 4 industrial partners.
