Interview with Claytec | In our interview serie we ask designer and manufacturer to answer the same 6 questions about their company, their idea about design and sustainability and what is important for them.

Following the answers from Dieter Mai responsible for Social Media.

About Claytec

The history of Claytec began in the 1970s. When renovating a historical Fachwerkhof courtyard the now owner of CLAYTEC Peter Breidenbach – he was 15 years old at the time – and his slightly older school friend Ulrich Röhlen – today CLAYTEC’s technology and marketing manager – experimented together for the first time with clay processing for infills and plaster. They did not yet suspect that their work would significantly contribute to clay construction in Germany experiencing a renaissance.

What is sustainable about your products?

Everything!

Which are the 3 most suitable adjectives to describe this and why?

Ecological – energy-efficient extraction and processing of the base clay to make building materials; no toxins; reusable.

Healthy – clay contributes to a significantly improved indoor climate.

Livable – houses built of clay materials make pleasant homes that last a lifetime.

What is the secret to your success?

We swear by the excellent quality of the products we manufacture. All the same, we are always open to fresh ideas that enrich their ongoing development.

What is it you like about InteriorPark.?

InteriorPark. showcases a variety of different products that share two common features: an exquisite look and sustainability. Both of these aspects are key to our company philosophy.

What is good design?

A well-built product will be consummately functional and easy to use, accompanied by an entirely intuitive design. Good design is worth the price.

What are the greatest challenges for design in future?

Design is an essential factor in the development of “good” products. Not just in terms of their aesthetic appeal and functions. Modern consumers habitually appraise a product’s ecological quality before deciding on which one to buy. So it is essential to advance this process of harmonious symbiosis between form, function and sustainability. At the end of the day, the Earth is our only home.
