Interview with fivetimesone | In our interview serie we ask designer and manufacturer to answer the same 6 questions about their company, their idea about design and sustainability and what is important for them.

Following the answers from Mirosław Popławski, owner and designer of fivetimesone in Gdynia, Poland.

About fivetimesone

fivetimesone is a design studio and brand formed in 2009 by the Poplawski family. They love simplicity and nature, their focus is to make beautiful, timeless and unique objects with strong identities.

All objects are designed and hand crafted in Poland.

What is sustainable about your products?

Fivetimesone’s technology is based on high quality materials as a way of reducing our environmental footprint. Our products are authentic and individual, coming from our workshop where they are handmade by craftsmen. We are cooperating with our neighbors by giving them workplaces. Our workers have a walking or cycling distance to our production house. Our suppliers are located within 30 km from our workshop. Our way of working is an active response to the speed of the global market and the environmental situation.

Which are the 3 most suitable adjectives to describe this and why?

Balanced – our products and our activities are based on our experience, empathy towards other people and values we believe in. We are saying ‘nothing should ever be forced’.

Quality – Timeless, honest quality products is what we do.

Uniqueness – Every product is hand crafted, it gives very emotional touch to the maker and to the user.

What is the secret to your success?

Family! We are combining different experiences, backgrounds, views, constantly learning how to carefully listen to each other and how to communicate our thoughts. The combination of hard work and respect for fair-trade rules and our craftsmen as well as quality control on every stage of the production process and years of experience.

What is it you like about InteriorPark.?

Great quality, professionalism, precision and consequence in selecting interesting brands, architects and designers. Some years ago, thanks to the kindness of Interior Park we appeared on the German market.

What is good design?

We believe that good design is well made and well thought so it might survive years. Rational, honest and pure design which is making your life more beautiful. Good design definitely take care of our surroundings and environment.

What are the greatest challenges for design in future?

Awakening the customer, in every field. We believe that we should all change our bad habits and develop our own personal ways to live a good life. We need great thinkers who will recover the system we are living in, starting from transportation to food industry and consumerism. The design process should be more humanistic, not focusing on mass production of new products every season.
